Upon viewing the pitiful ruins of my blog, my teachers will probably realize I abandoned this topic for my School Improvement Group Project. If that is indeed the case I may or may not be dropped from my R199 course and thus, this blog will cease to exist. I lost interest in Child Trauma, because it's kind of depressing. If I could've changed my topic later in the school year, I would have.

Research Update - Contact
Recently I took the liberty of interviewing an old family friend (She requested to remain anonymous) who was a small child living in Poland during WWII. Her brother and mother both died in German Concentration Camps, and although she suffers from loss of memory in her old age, she still remembers the horrors she witnessed. After the war, she moved to America and married a fellow refugee. She never searched for employment, and suffered because she couldn't find psychiatrists who spoke fluent polish. (This post is a combination of information from former conversations and her memoirs translated to English)

Reviewing the "Child called It" Series
Possibly the most famous chronicles of Child Abuse, Dave Pelzers autobiographical memoirs tell the story of the inhumane treatment he received from his mother during his childhood, as well as journey through foster care. I read the books in Jr. High and now that I'm working on a similar topic, I thought it would be good to look at them again.

Update
My group is in the process of finalizing our second quarter project, which would involve creating a sort of Freshmen Mentoring program. An official update will be released on the group site tommorrow, as we begin work on a freshmen class survey that will determine the direction we take this project

Types of Trauma
The AACAP (American Academy of Child/Adolescent Psychology, has created classifications of the different ways children can be effected.
One-Episode Trauma: Children effected by a singular traumatic event often have detailed memories and have a condition commonly known as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Nightmares are common among children with OE trauma, and they will effect their day to day lives all the way into adulthood.
Repeated Trauma, or Type II PTSD: Type II is only common in children that have grown up in warzone-like areas. Domestic violence is a leading cause of Type II and it is frequent in areas with much gang-related activity. Children with Type II suffer from constant anxiety of another episode and often are more likely to have mental breakdowns than Type I patients.
