#hmm

So apparently my experiment idea was "Inhumane" and no parent would actually agree to lettng their children participate in it... Oh well it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Project Inspiration!

This came to me at like 2AM yesterday (Or was it technically today?) and I felt like I haaaaaad to blog about it. Don't you dare roll your eyes at me. Yeah, I'm tslkin' to you. So I obtain permission to do an objective psychological experiment on some children at an elementary students (Preferably 8 or 9 year olds because they've been influenced by society, but have yet to form their own opinions for the most part) to test the effect of irrational fear. Now the premise of the experiment is simple, but it serves a purpose. The child will be told to enter a "waiting room" of sorts with a friendly atmosphere to keep them reacts. When the experiment begins, the child will enter the testing room where I and possibly several others will be documenting the results of the test. I will place a box on the ground next to them, but to create irrational fear, I will be wearing heavy gloves, and possibly a gas mask or some other ridiculous prop. The child will be asked to exit the room momentarily while I assemble the experiment. The moment the child leaves the room, I will begin to make a loud pounding noise of some kind, combined with a call for help. When the child reenters the room, I will simply ask them to open the box. If the child refuses to open the box, it will mean the irrational fear (Or basically, short-term trauma) has had an effect on their ability to function. The results of this test I would document and present as my final project. Please feel free to comment any questions/concerns below.

Prior Knowledge

My prior knowledge on child trauma: Trauma is a psychological condition that can effect the human body both mentally and psychically. It is generally triggered by a shocking or scarring experience such as witnessing a murder, being assualted in some way, or being in an accident. When a child has a traumatic experience of some kind, it can scar them for the rest of their life and can come back to "haunt" them and mess up what they do.

What is trauma?

"Trauma is defined as an event more overwhelming than a person ordinarily would be expected to encounter. For example, while a divorce in the family is stressful, it would not be considered a life-threatening traumatic event. In contrast, one parent knifing the other would. Children who experience horrible external events may experience emotional harm or psychic trauma. Left untreated, all but the mildest of childhood trauma can have an impact on the child." ~http://www.aacap.org/cs/root/publication_store/your_child_childhood_trauma_and_its_effects

"Definition of Psychological Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Trauma is defined as a physical or psychological threat or assault to a child’s physical
integrity, sense of self, safety or survival or to the physical safety of another person
significant to the child (Vermont CUPS Handbook, p. 170).  Children may experience
trauma as a result of a number of different circumstances" http://mentalhealth.vermont.gov/sites/dmh/files/report/cafu/DMH-CAFU_Psychological_Trauma_Moroz.pdf

Mission Statement

The research I will be conducting will be on the topic of Trauma in children, and how it effects their lives. The mission of this blog is to show the time lapse of my Critical Thinking research through journal logs, record my research and progression towards my goal, and help compare and contrast my research with that of my peers.

Tiring day

Did an all out Mile/Eight Quarter sprints at CC and it was even more tiring the second time. Mile time was 6:20 which is eh but I think I'm gonna try and break 6 minutes next time. Once I got home (I got to take the late bus instead of walking!) I had 3 hours of homework to do which I literally JUST completed. Got first chair in band, whoopdeefrickendandy. Can you say, "Underwhelmed by the lack of talent in the brass section?" Because I sure can.

Last Weekend Post - 9/3

School tommorow...sucks. Oh well, the weekend had to end eventually and at least its only a 4 day week. 3 Days till Fremd meet and I am PUMPED for Cross Country. Lets go pirates!

~Nate

So glad I went to practice today

So today at CC we ran 7 miles and I know that sounds awful but it felt really good. I was really sore for the first mile but all of the sudden I just had like a zillion trillion volts of energy and I wanted to do 9 but couldnt. But anyhoo, I read Divergence for the umpteenth time today and if you havent read it, read it because it's my third favorite series right behind Harry Potter and the Hunger Games trilogy.

Ughhhh.

WHY DO I HAVE PRACTICE TOMMOROW?
The meet against Fremd isnt until Thursday, so why are we having practice at 8am tommorow????
I mean, I can see the need for practice but WHY 8 O CLOCK?
It's a THREE DAY WEEKEND AND I ONLY GOT TO SLEEP IN 1 OUT OF 3 DAYS!
Finished my homework while watching Scrubs, and still reading Outliers.

First Look: Outliers: The Story of Success

So for Critical Thinking we're reading "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell and yesterday I read the first two chapters. It reminded me of Freakonomics with the way they used the birth date statistics to explain the success of the hockey players. It's definitely an interesting book and I might read some more tonight.
